JHP was established to support the ongoing efforts of Tarius Montayj Jones and wife Deja And’e Jones and their work over The Slave Psychology. Part One of this work analyzes the systematic creation of the crab-in-a-bucket ideology in America as well as the creation of 'ghettoes.' It looks at why the crab-in-a-bucket ideology exists, why it was created, why it is important, and why it is built to last.

Deja hails from Erie, Pennsylvania. She has over seven years of experience as an RBT. She joined her current company in 2021, becoming an integral piece to the day-to-day operations of the company, with duties that include, but not limited to RBT trainer and Case Manager of Early Childhood Development.
Deja graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Prairie View A&M University in 2016, where was mentored by Dr. Derek J. Wilson (Ubuntu Musings: The Need for Black Critical Consciousness). Her credentials include B.S., BCaBA, and LaBA.
She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Early Childhood Intervention from Ball State University where she plans to use her knowledge and skills to further research in ABA and human behavior.
Tarius . . .
Tarius Montayj Jones was raised in Conroe, Texas. He has worked as a professor in “higher ed” since 2012. His work has been featured in Ellipsis: A Journal of Art, Ideas, and Literature, The African Writer Magazine (AfricanWriter.com), Tales in Firelight and Shadow anthology, The Artifice (www.the-artifice.com), and WAYF Journal.
He holds a Bachelor (English major, Political Science minor, December 2008) and Master of English (May 2012) from Texas Southern University, paralegal certificate from Ashworth College (March 2020), and is a graduate of the CWW/ MFA program from the University of New Orleans (May 2026) for Creative Writing – Nonfiction.
He is the winner of the 2026 Samuel Mockbee Award for Nonfiction for his story, “The Ripples,” as well as the 2026 Carol Gelderman Nonfiction Thesis Award for best memoir / thesis (The Other Side of the Tracks) from the University of New Orleans. His story, “The Sound of a Good Man” also came in as second runner up in the Samuel Mockbee Prize in Non-Fiction in 2025.
